The following two methodologies are trademarks of the UK Office of Government Commerce, however have become globally recognised and adopted by a number of international organisations.
  • PRINCE2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) and,
  • ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library)
The next two are Cisco propriety, which you may encounter throughout your Cisco career.

Planning and Verification Overview cont.

In the same way a security engineer has a 360 degree approach for designing and implementing the installation of a new device or a firewall upgrade for example. As a network engineer you will have to consider your actions and ensure that your new design is both thoroughly tested and documented for other colleagues to troubleshoot should a network fault arise, or alternatively should someone want to expand on your design after you have moved on in your networking career.

As expected the CCNP examinations have changed a lot since they were first introduced in the late 1990's, and the restructure of the CCNP curriculum, as per the latest update, now allows network engineers to focus their studies on more specific subjects - for the purpose of article this is routing, switching and troubleshooting.

The changes have seen a number of protocols leave the CCNP R&S set of exams, and reside in a more specialised category such as QoS, for example, is now found solely in the CCIP examination topic, however there is one important addition to the CCNP curriculum - Planning and Verification.
